Aviation has a funny way of making otherwise ordinary equipment very expensive.

Headsets are a perfect example. Spend a little time shopping for one and it doesn't take long before you're looking at options that cost $1,000 or more.

But do you actually need to spend that much?

KORE Aviation recently sent me its KA-1 aviation headset to review, so I decided to give it the full Thrifty Pilot treatment.

I opened the box, looked at what you actually get for your money, took the headset out to the airplane for a real-world cockpit evaluation, and then scored it in the areas that matter most to me as a pilot.

And at the end of the review, I answer the question that really matters:

Would I spend my own money on it?
